Named for a beautiful grove of live oak trees, the City was first settled in 1866 and incorporated in 1947. The town grew with the advent of the California-Oregon Railroad in the 1870's and was the second city to be established in Sutter County along State Route 99 East.
Home to an abundance of outdoor activities, Live Oak is the gateway to many recreation opportunities including hiking in the Sutter Buttes, wine tasting at Cordi Winery and bird watching at Gray Lodge Wildlife Area. Visit Live Oak in September and experience the annual Live Oak Parade.
Stop on your way down Hwy 99 and enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner at a local Live Oak eatery. Betty's Authentic Mexican Restaurant is a local favorite and well known in the regional area. Looking for an unforgettable meal? Pasquini's Fine Italian Food offers a beautiful atmosphere, seasonal dishes and plenty of local extra virgin olive oil and fresh baked bread. Treat yourself, we promise you won't regret it.
Two miles east of Pennington Rd on the Feather River sits the Live Oak Park and Recreation Area. A recently updated boat ramp offers access to the river for fishing and swimming. Spacious overnight camp sites offer picnic areas and onsite restrooms.
