10:00 am - noon. Learn how to make a mask to wear in the Bok Kai parade on March 20. The 130th celebration "Year of the Tiger." Learn how the tiger came to be one of the animals in the Chinese zodiac. Participants will create their own unique tiger mask to be worn in the parade. The workshop is open to children of all ages, under 5 must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is suggested by calling the Library.

The Big Read in Yuba Sutter, the area's first, will focus on Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer." Full version copies as well as easy-to-read children's editions of the book are available. A variety of activities and events will take place over the course of six weeks, February 1 through March 15. The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest.

Saturday. The 130th Annual Bok Kai Festival begins with a 5K Run/Walk. Registration in front of the Bok Kai Temple on 1st Street at 8:15 a.m. and begins at 9:00 a.m. This year's parade features the new 175-foot parade dragon, Hong Wan Lung that arrived from Northern China in 2009. The parade starts at 11:00 a.m. on 6th & D Streets, with an entourage including lion dancers, martial arts demonstrations, floats and more. Multi-cultural entertainment for the entire family, including Lion Dancing & Martial Arts by the Hop Sing Society will take place at the corner of 3rd and D Street following the Parade. The Bok Kai Temple and the Chinese American Museum will be open during both days of the festival.

Sunday, beginning at noon. The 130th Annual Bomb Day activities will include lectures by many top Chinese historians and community members. The Chinese American Museum of Northern California on 1st will be open, along with the historical Bok Kai Temple. Concluding the event at 4:00 pm is the "Firing of the Bombs." 100 handmade ceremonial "bombs" are tossed into the air followed by a mad dash for the lucky rings contained inside the individual bombs. This colorful activity is punctuated by the vivid snapping and popping of fireworks. This event is open for public viewing only.
